About the Artist

Born in Tanzania to missionary parents in 1958, and raised at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Katherine has been immersed in the diverse cultures, stories, and colors of the world throughout her life. She has had the opportunity to live in four continents and travel extensively, fueling her love for the arts from an early age. 

After living abroad for many years, she graduated with a BA in Education and Music from Texas Lutheran University in 1980, and continued a personal study and pursuit of art. Katherine received her MA in Studio Painting in 2024 from the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. She has attended numerous workshops and studied with many talented artists such as Michael Klein, Edward Jonas, James Tennison, Dan Thompson, Dawn Whitelaw, Robert Carsten, Greg Mortenson, Michelle Dunaway, Richard Greathouse, Daniel Edmonson, and attended ateliers such as Studio Incamminati.

As the founder and former director of the Leesburg Center for the Arts in Leesburg, Florida, Katherine served as an instructor, judge, curator, and designer for many exhibits, and shared her love for beauty and art with friends, family, students, educators, and collectors. She has exhibited solo and in group shows; her work remains in a number of private collections as well as the Cultural Heritage Center in Arusha, Tanzania. Commissioned works include award winning festival posters, portraits, pet portraits, murals, home decor for design firms, and illustrations in publications, educational materials, and magazines. She has also been a finalist in the Atlanta Portrait Society and Plein Air Magazine. She is a long time member of The Portrait Society of America, where she served as the Florida Ambassador, The Portrait Society of Atlanta, The Central Florida Pastel Society, and Oil Painters of America. 

While Katherine still enjoys travel back to Africa and Europe, her studio is now above her barn in Central Florida. Thoughtful moments of reflection are seen in her work and are inspired by the beauty of God's creation and her interactions with the beloved people and places in her life. She paints because she must, out of an abundance of passion, to the praise of His glorious grace.
